Make your voice heard! Take the poll on the right hand side of the blog and let us know what route you want to ride for the Biking to the Viking 2008. We are leaving it in the hands of the riders. We have heard both good and bad about the BttV 2007 route and some folks want to go back to 06 and some don't want us to change a thing. You guys will decide.
Poll closes on January 30, 2008. Vote once, but make sure you vote. The route with more votes is the route we ride in 08!

Let's lobby the province to close a stretch of one of the highways. There's 3 big North-South highways. Why can't they close one for 4 hours?
We have tried that approach before in past years. However, we did not get very far in the process and were basically told it would not happen. I suppose the RCMP and the municipalities see the roads heading north as ending in cottage country and on a warm summer weekend see no reason to restrict the traffic. It would be wonderful if we could. Until such a time arises, we will just continue to do our best to educate the drivers that we are there and make sure the cyclists are riding safely.
We may post a few of those large black and neon signs along busioer highway steretches this year, just to see if that night catch a drivers eye a little more...
The original route (zig zag, etc) at least has the advantage of breaking up the possibility of riding into the wind for a long, long, long time. Last year's route was a killer! With added signage on Hwy 7 we can ride safely into Teulon and have the advantage of being visible to more people. It was on Hwy 8 that my son and I had our crash (due not to bad roads, but some inexperienced riders who braked unexpectedly). No matter where we ride, we'll find some pros and some cons, but staying away from Stoney Mountain should avoid most 'cons'. Where are those Enns'? Getting in shape?
Its so nice to hear that the participants truly understand how difficult it is to choose a route that will keep all the riders safe and happy. Thanks for your understanding everyone, we try our best!
The top of the page says both Pembina Valley Challenge and Biking to the Viking - but your poll does not specify
Maybe there should be a separate page for each?
Oops! Good catch, I will make the appropriate change and will get into the habit of announcing which tour I am speaking of. Thanks!
